OUR HISTORY

Carlos M. and Lydia Ferran started a small building and remodeling company in the mid 1960’s after emigrating from Cuba in 1960.  Carlos had grown up in a family building business in Cuba and even though he had graduated with an accounting degree he found his way back to building in his adopted home land of Virginia.

Caly Builders was incorporated as a Virginia corporation in 1970.  The name “Caly” came by combining the first two letters of Carlos and Lydia.  Just as in the company name the husband and wife combined their efforts to operate a successful building and remodeling business serving northern Virginia.  They built additions, homes, churches, group homes and apartments for the disabled until 1991 when Carlos M. died of cancer.

Upon the death of Carlos M. Ferran, his son Carlos J. Ferran became president and general manager of Caly Builders.  Carlos J. had also grown up in the family business and in 1979 after graduating from college had come back to work with his parents.  Carlos’s wife Carrie soon became involved with the business and they have together continued to build custom homes in northern Virginia as the second generation of Caly Builders.

Carlos and Carrie have insisted on keeping the business small in order to give each customer their personal attention.  It is this attention to small details and customer satisfaction that the company was founded on, and is a family tradition they strive to uphold.
